Summary:
This anticipated book is a collection of viewpoints, opinions or stories from the youth of the Sakhisizwe municipality – Cala and Elliot towns. It aims to cover contemporary issues that are facing the youth; how the youth sees the world that they live in; the impact of different socio-economic influences on their lives; and how different cultural or traditional practices shape their worldview. Furthermore, this book is aimed at promoting the youths creative writing talent and the use of indigenous languages, whilst driving the preservation of our beautiful language – isiXhosa.
Objectives:
- To unearth and showcase the youth’s talent
- To promote writing in indigenous languages
- To showcase the culture and stories of the region as the youth experiences them
Areas of focus:
- Public / Current affairs / Gender Based Violence (GBV)
- Creative stories / Imagination/ Opinion pieces / Sport / History
- Culture / Tradition
- Youth Challenges
Format / length of submissions:
- All submissions should be in IsiXhosa
- 1-2 pages long / Per individual
- Submissions can be in the form of SHORT STORIES / ESSAYS / POETRY / PROSE / PLAYS
Eligibility:
- Individuals between the ages of 13 -35 years
- A resident of the Sakhisizwe Municipality
- Written material in IsiXhosa
- Preference will be given to females mostly, but submissions are accepted from all genders
